Description

Zinzino BalanceTest – Home Dry Blood Spot Test for Fatty Acid Analysis

Zinzino BalanceTest is a fast and simple in vitro diagnostic test that allows you to collect a blood sample at home. The test uses the Dried Blood Spot (DBS) technique, and the collection process usually takes less than a minute. The sample is then anonymously analyzed in a certified laboratory to determine the profile of 11 fatty acids and the omega-6:3 ratio in the body.

Results are made available online approximately 10–20 days after the laboratory receives the sample.

What does BalanceTest provide?

  • Measurement of 11 fatty acids in the blood.
  • Assessment of the omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acid ratio.
  • Determination of the proportion of EPA, DHA, and other key fatty acids relative to the total fat profile.
  • Access to a clear online report showing numeric values and interpretation of parameters.

BalanceTest is not intended to assess health, but only presents the fatty acid profile in the blood, reflecting dietary habits.

Why is fatty acid analysis important?

The fatty acid content in the body is significantly influenced by diet. Modern dietary habits differ from those of previous decades due to changes in animal husbandry, plant cultivation, and the prevalence of processed foods. BalanceTest allows you to check your individual fat profile and make informed dietary choices.

Test technology – fast collection and high accuracy

BalanceTest uses the dried blood spot method, which has been shown to be as accurate as venous blood analysis.
The process is as follows:

  1. Quick finger prick using a single-use lancet.
  2. Apply a few drops of blood onto a special filter card.
  3. Send the sample to the laboratory.

Analysis is performed by VITAS Analytical Services – an experienced GMP-certified laboratory specializing in liquid chromatography and biochemical analysis.
Accuracy of fatty acid measurement is approximately 98%.

Which fatty acids are analyzed?

The test determines the concentrations of the following 11 fatty acids:

  • Palmitic acid (PA)
  • Stearic acid (SA)
  • Oleic acid (OA)
  • Linoleic acid (LA)
  • Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)
  • Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA)
  • Dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid (DHGLA)
  • Arachidonic acid (AA)
  • Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)
  • Docosapentaenoic acid (DPA)
  • Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)

Additional indices are generated based on these data:

  • Omega-6:3 balance
  • Total EPA + DHA level
  • Cell membrane fluidity index
  • Arachidonic acid production efficiency (from diet)
  • Fatty acid protection profile (0–100; informational only, not health-related)

Step-by-step test procedure

1. Preparation

  • Wash hands with warm water and dry them.
  • Remove the test card from the envelope and detach the section marked “KEEP”.
  • Take a photo of the individual test number – required for checking results.

2. Disinfection and collection

  • Disinfect the chosen fingertip with an alcohol wipe.
  • Warm the hand by moving it downward a few times.
  • Place the single-use lancet on the finger and press to make the puncture.

3. Collecting blood drops

  • Do not touch the filter card with your finger.
  • Allow the blood to flow into the marked circles.
  • Each circle should be filled with at least three drops of blood.

4. Drying

  • Leave the card horizontal for at least 10 minutes until the sample is completely dry.

5. Securing the sample

  • Place the card in the paper envelope and then in the metal bag with desiccant.
  • Seal the bag tightly.

6. Sending

  • Place the bag in the addressed envelope.
  • Apply postage and drop the envelope in the mailbox.

7. Registration

  • Go to www.zinzinotest.com and enter your individual code.
  • Results will be available online in approximately 10–20 days.

How to interpret the results?

The online report shows:

Omega-6:3 balance

  • 9:1 – unbalanced
  • 9:1 to 3:1 – partially balanced
  • ≤3:1 – balanced

EPA + DHA level

Percentage value indicates the share of marine omega-3 fatty acids in the total fat profile.

Cell membrane fluidity index

Indicates the ratio of saturated fats to omega-3 (EPA+DHA).

Fatty acid protection profile (0–100)

A synthetic measure reflecting the balance of analyzed fatty acids.
Not a health indicator.

Additional information

  • BalanceTest is an in vitro diagnostic product intended for home use.
  • The test does not provide medical advice or serve as a disease diagnosis tool.
